Night blooming cereus and it grows in Jamaica. They birth forth at sun down; they bloom through the night and are withered by the morning.

Tincture is made from the tender stems and flowers collected in the summer.

Affinities: Heart, circular muscles, circulation, chest, head and it is right sided. It is a major heart remedy.

Three Cs and four Ps.

Constriction, Contraction, Congestion

Pulsating, Panting, Prostrated, Pale

General sensations: As of a band, as of a beat, as if caged in wires, feel like a wire is digging into the affected part. Whole body feels as if caged. Feels like each wire is being twisted tighter and tighter and tighter. Pain is so violent it makes them cry out in agony.

Heart symptoms: violent palpitations, worse lying on the left side, worse before their period, worse walking, worse the slightest mental or physical exertion, worse deep thoughts.

Keynote: heart feels clutched as if by an iron band or an iron fist. As if an iron band prevented the heart's normal movement. As if the heart was compressed violently and has violently struggled to burst its bonds. As if bound by wires which are squeezing tighter and tighter and stops the person breathing. Pain excruciating makes them shriek with the pain.

Great distress, fear of death - like Aconite. They have difficulty breathing and they feel their chest is not able to expand. Cold sweat on face. Periodic attacks of suffocation and faintness. Cold sweat on the face. Loss of pulse.

Keynote: heart problems with the swelling of the left hand. Digitalis as swelling of the right hand.

Also a remedy for angina. With a sensation as if a swarm of hornets was going from the pectoral region to the heart.

Organic disease of the heart, valvular disease, cardio myopathy (enlarged), myco cardio infarction, peri carditis, and aneurysms. Arrhythmia, heart trouble from rheumatism.

Fear constriction pain with local pulsation.

Often there is low blood pressure with it. Cyanosis with cardiac problems.

Congestion and Contraction: extremely changeable circulation. Disturbance of the blood flow. Hot head, cold extremities. Sudden localised flushes. Blood always seems to be in the wrong place. Rushes of blood to the part with contraction. Violent congestion to the face, red face with headache (like a band, compressed in a vice.) He becomes stupid. Apoplexy with congestion face and pulsation. Strong pulsation in temples, looking distended.

Vertigo with rushes of blood < stooping, turning in bed, deep inspiration.

Often there is heart disease with haemorrhage. Lots of bleeding especially spitting up of blood with compression of the chest. Rheumatic pains generally starting in the upper extremities. Joints feel as if they are tied with tape or bandage. Sharp vice like grip.

Arthritis treated with drugs then involves the heart. When rheumatism licks the joints and bites the heart - Dr Vakil. (Kalmia) Hot here, cold there. Coldness predominant.

Cardiac patients have dreams of falling. Violent dreams of falling. Choking sensation, constriction of throat. A ball in the throat. Strong pulsation felt in bowels, extremities and severe metrorrhagia with clots and constricting pains.

Causation: disappointed love, hunger, haemorrhoid in heart.

• Lying on left side, on occiput, exertion, periodicity, ascending stairs, 11am and 11pm, fasting, after eating, noise.
• Open air, pressure on vertex, rest.

Digitalis

Tincture from the leaves from the two-year-old plant.

Affinity: Heart muscle, circulation, liver, lungs, stomach, prostrate, genito-urinary organs, occiput. It is right or left sided.

Don't go in with a high potency of digitalis for someone who is on digitalis allopathically.

Low potency or start with Crategus tincture to strengthen the heart and then more of a specific.

Weak heart, liver symptoms and jaundice. Characteristic slow pulse. Weak heart with slow pulse. Drops very low when they are lying down. Constant anguish in the heart. Heart failure, heart block, partial heart block. Arterial fibrillation. Pericarditis due to heart attack. Angina, palpitations, The least movement causes violent palpitations. Cardiac asthma. Asthma < after going to sleep because of fluid in the lungs with slow pulse (40 - 50).

Dizziness in elderly. Sleep full of horrible dreams and nightmares especially dreams of falling. Despair with heart symptoms (Aurum). Grief and broken heart, shocks to the heart.

Broken heart, weeping spells, grief, palpitations, desire to be alone after the break up, music aggravates and sighing - Digitalis. Often on a functional level they go into Nat Mur, Ignatia.Diabetes from grief is Phos Ac.

Can't function after grief. Ailments from bad news. Feel bad news in the epigastrium.

Liver symptoms secondary to heart problems. Liver is enlarged, painful, jaundice, white, pasty pale stools. Bitter taste in the mouth.

Cratagus - Hawthorn (in tincture)

The Hawthorn was the crown of thorns. Fresh berries - tincture made. Bright red. Pounded into a pulp.

In 1896 the New York medical journal - Dr Jennings - wonderful account of how it became famous due to Dr Green in Ireland. Became very wealthy with this one remedy. Flocked to him. He did not let on what he was using. Made more money and more money. Built up this reputation. Only guy in Europe that could cure heart disease. When he died his wife revealed the secret.

Affinity: heart, blood vessels, kidneys

Made idea, a weak heart or non-specific heart problems. Most prescribed herbal tincture in practice. Given to a lot of people with good results. Especially with people on high blood pressure drugs and heart problems. Acutely ten to twenty drops three times a day for a couple of months. Drops in half a glass of water.

Enlarged heart. Non-specific heart murmurs. Main remedy for anyone on heart or blood pressure drugs. It is a heart tonic. For ex heart attack patients.

Keep them on their drugs. Hawthorn and then constitutional - 3C three times again - and then reduce drugs. Take them off diuretic first and then see how they go. Excellent heart tonic. Muscles of the heart, weak heart from valvular affections.

Low energy, fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath - all common symptoms. Alcoholic heart, tobacco heart, caffeine heart.

Heart problems with anxiety, with hurried feeling and despair. Cross, irritable patients with cardiac symptoms. It is very gentle. They can be on it for a few months. Mild diuretic. Amyl Nitrate - poppers

Brain cells go pop every time you take it. Introduced by the old school as an inhalation when the blood vessels were contracting. Especially in angina, asthma and epilepsy. It dilates the arterioles and the capillaries. Which causes flushing in the face, throbbing in the face and head. Followed by the most distressing commotion in the heart. Fast and furious heart beat. Extreme anxiety as if something bad was happening. Pulsating all over.

Strong tendency for blushing. Great anxiety about health that they are going to have a stroke or heart attack.

Keynote: They have to run to the window for fresh air. Feeling of foreboding. That they are suffocating. They can't tolerate tight at the throat. Fear of a heart attack at any moment. Tumultuous palpitations and throbbing of the arteries. A sense of constriction. Sudden beating of the carotids that extends to the head with flushing.

Hypotrophy of the heart. Heart murmurs. Heart attacks. Angina. With faintness and flushing of the face. Advanced arterio-sclerosis in young men with flushed face and tottering gate and mental confusion.

Keynotes: A motion of the lips as if something was being tasted. Constant movement of the lower jaw as if chewing (arterio sclerosis.) Yawning that does not satisfy.

Strong desire to stress. Without relent for an hour at a time. Orgasm of blood - head rush. Rush of blood goes upwards. Flushing and fear something bad will happen. Impending stroke.

Sun stroke: protrusion of the eyes and difficulty breathing, acute headache.

Mentally they feel as if in a dream, confused and depressed. Melancholy without a sense of anguish. Grief. Go to bed and sleep only a little. Thinking about their lost loved one.

Apocynum - American Hemp

Affinities: urinary organs, digestive tract, uterus. 10 drops three times a day in half a glass of water. Heart/Kidney remedy.

Oedema associated in heart or kidney problems. Swelling with great thirst, chilly and crave warmth. Scanty urine.

Apis is thirstless. They are hot and worse for heat and have scanty urine.

Cold disagrees with American Hemp and they vomit it.

Main remedy for heart failure. Heart so weak that all the fluid backs up into the system.

Valve weakness and valve regurgitation. Heart, high blood pressure and diabetic medication.

Swollen ankles and wrists associated with high or low blood pressure. It is more low blood pressure.

Swelling is every where - pleura (difficult breathing and they have to sit up), peritoneum, brain (hydrocephalus with stupor).

Apis, Apocynum, Solidago - drainage remedies to drain fluid.

Urine is excessively scanty, thick, yellow, turbid (cloudy.)
